"Dead Poets Society" Notes

  • Religious and an all boys school
  • It's a boarding school (students live at the school)
  • Boys who are attending the school aren't following their dreams, but following their parents ideas of what they should be.
  • Robin Williams is a different from the other teachers at the school. He wants them to understand that there is more to writing. He has them rip pages out of their textbooks that produce an equation on how to produce poetry.
  • He wants them to be free thinkers where his colleagues think they can't. They  believe that they don't know what they need and therefore need to be told and follow what they are told to do.
  • He tells them to look at the world in a different way. He wants them to think about what they think and find their own voice.

Robin Williams is a great teacher. He wants his students to find themselves and to not let others tell them what they should be. HE provides them with a voice for them to be heard.
