How Gruwell and Keating Are Similar and Different:

Ms. Gruwell and Mr.Keating are both teachers that love to teach. They want their students to go above and beyond and to see how important they really are. Gruwell does this by showing her students that she believes they can succeed when no one else does. She shows them care and love when a teacher has never done that for them. She also has to prove to them that they can trust her and with trusting her they gained a lot more then they would have ever thought. Keating does the same thing. He shows his students that their lives are their own. That you can't please everyone and if you are going to please some one make sure its yourself. Both of the teachers help break the shells of their students. They both show them their full potential and show them that there is so much more to life that still needs to be discovered. Keating does this by using the Dead Poets Society to break through to the boys. It shows them that their is more to life then checking all the boxes. That following your dreams is something that you have to do. Gruwell does it by showing her students the importance of education. She takes them on field trips and shows them life outside "the hood", shows them that life doesn't have to be an uphill battle. Gruwell and Keating also have their differences. One difference would be in the type of schools they both teach in. Gruwell teaches in a inner city public school where Keating teaches in a private religious school that is very conservative. This in turn makes their methods of approaching the problem very different. Gruwell goes straight to the administration where Keating works with his students where the administration can't really pick up on. I feel that Gruwell took the bigger risk in a sense. She was risking putting her job on the line to save her students. But, so did Keating. Both of their situation are very different because of the settings they are in. How one is much more open then the other and the other is very conservative and there is no room for change. At the end though both teachers took the necessary risks and got their jobs done. They both were inspiring teachers that taught their students to seek their goals and never aim lower.
